Seeking a 'sensible midpoint'

I have a friend who believes that Christians should always oppose war. A similar view was expressed Feb. 2 in Memphis by Dr. William Sloane Coffin. As I read his remarks in the newspaper, I thought back 12 years to 1991. At that time Coffin and many other church leaders urged America not to intervene in the Persian Gulf. But if America and her allies had not liberated Kuwait and sent Saddam Hussein scurrying back to Baghdad, I wonder what the Middle East would be like today.
The pacifist position has always been a respected minority position among Christians. A classic pacifist is one who opposes any violence. Many Christians have been pacifists over the last 2,000 years, but the majority have not held that view. >>>Full Article
