The church trial of the Rev. Karen Dammann will be open to the public. Presiding bishop, William Boyd Grove, announced that, following a closed session in which the jury will be selected, observers will be allowed to be present for the trial. Church law specifies that trials will be closed unless the clergy person under charges requests an open trial. The trial is scheduled for March 17 at Bothell United Methodist Church, outside Seattle, Washington. Jury selection in closed session will begin at 9:30 am. It is not known how long this might take, or when the open trial will begin.
Watch www.pnwumc.org in coming days for more information about how observers and press can participate in the trial.
